Australia’s most famous sporting race, the Melbourne Cup, is here.
A staple on the nation’s sporting calendar, Flemington Racecourse is set to light up today with fashion, entertainment and, of course, the iconic race — with prizemoney of $8 million.
Here’s everything you need to know — from what to wear and how to watch, to what weather attendees can expect.
WHAT TIME IS THE RACE?
8.30am: Flemington gates open
10.08am: Welcome to Country
10.55am: Race 1 – Darley Ottawa Stakes (G3)
11.35am: Race 2 – Grinders Coffee Roasters Trophy
12.10pm: Race 3 – TAB Trophy
12.45pm: Race 4 – The Macca’s Run
1.20pm: Race 5 – Schweppervescence Plate
1.55pm: Race 6 – Jim Beam Stakes (G3)
2.15pm: Lexus Melbourne Cup Trophy Ceremony
3.00pm: Race 7 – Lexus Melbourne Cup (G1)
4.00pm: Race 8 – Furphy Plate (LR)
4.40pm: Race 9 – MSS Security Sprint (LR)
5.20pm: Race 10 – The Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (LR).

The stakes on Cup Day aren’t only high on the field — but also in fashion.
When it comes to your outfit, Myer Fashions On The Field ambassador Crystal Kimber told news.com.au you should avoid playing it safe when figuring out what to wear.
“It’s your opportunity to really push yourself in terms of fashion trends and being a little bit more adventurous than what you would normally wear,” she said.
Attendees should also opt for comfortable footwear, “embrace colour and sleeves” and remember that “millinery is a must” — even if just a fun hairclip or headband.
WEATHER
Following a wet weekend, up to 7mm of rain is forecast to fall by the end of Monday.
The good news is that Tuesday is expected to be dry, with the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting sunny and cloudy conditions, with a top of 18.

HOW TO WATCH AND LISTEN
For free-to-air viewers, the Melbourne Cup will be broadcast on Channel 10 this year, with coverage expected to begin at 10am.
You’ll also be able to watch the race on Racing.com, and Sky Racing on Foxtel will also cover the Cup — though the actual race will be delayed by several minutes due to exclusive free-to-air rights.
TenPlay, Foxtel and Racing.com will be among the platforms streaming the race live.
For those who can’t get to a TV, the following radio stations will call the race — with some providing additional coverage throughout the day:

2005: Makybe Diva’s hat-trick
After claiming victories in the previous two years, the nation was eager for Makybe Diva to become the first winner of three consecutive Melbourne Cup races.
The legendary horse did just that, retiring immediately after claiming the historic hat-trick.
2008: One dozen for Cummings
Bart Cummings achieved a remarkable feat in 2008 when Viewed crossed first in the 2008 Cup — winning the trainer his 12th Melbourne Cup and etching himself in history as one of the all-time greats.
2015: First female winner
Against all odds, Michelle Payne became the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup in 2015.
