Hamlin’s team, meanwhile, sounded ultraconfident about its driver’s chances Sunday as the opener drew to a close. “We will win Sunday,” came across on the 11 car’s radio. Hamlin second-guessed himself for his driving strategy on the white-flag lap, but he also acknowledged it would have been difficult to pass Harvick, who grabbed the lead after crew chief Rodney Childers called for a two-tire stop late in the race to gain track position.
