Dallas Cowboys vs New Orleans Saints

Sunday 29 September 2019 at Mercedes-Benz Superdome

Two division leaders meet in the Superdome for a Week Four showdown that promises to be one of the most intriguing NFL picks of the week. The Cowboys’ offense has thrived under new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. In Dallas’ 3-0 start, the offense has rocketed to third in the league in yards gained and fourth in points scored.

Quarterback Dak Prescott, in particular, has reached a new level. He leads the league in completion percentage and just about every measure, standard or advanced metric, shows he’s been the most accurate quarterback in the NFL.

Ezekiel Elliott has rushed for 100 yards in two straight games, and Tony Pollard also hit the century mark, giving Dallas a pair of 100-yard rushers for the first time in 21 seasons. A strong running game makes Prescott even more dangerous.

This week, Prescott gets to go against a defense that has struggled mightily against the pass. New Orleans has allowed 301.7 passing yards a game, the third-worst total in the league. The 19 plays of 20 or more yards that they’ve given up this year is second worst.

Replacing Brees

Prediction

The Saints lost franchise quarterback Drew Brees for the near future when the future Hall of Famer to a torn ligament in his thumb in Week Two.

Teddy Bridgewater performed well in his first start in Brees’ place last week. He went 19-of-27 for 177 yards and two scores, becoming the first Saints quarterback other than Brees to start and win since 2005.

Bridgewater was a first-round draft pick who has started 30 games in the NFL. So he should be able to fill Brees’ shoes in the short-term.

He’s helped by receiver Michael Thomas, who leads the NFC with 25 catches, and his 266 yards are fifth. The Saints will also lean heavily on the ground game, as Alvin Kamara appears to be in the middle of a breakout season. Kamara has 390 yards from scrimmage, which ranks fourth in the league.

Score

The versatile back scored on a run and a catch against Seattle. The Saints also have a special teams weapon in undrafted rookie Deonte Harris. He’s already scored a touchdown on a punt return and has a combined 203 yards on kick and punt returns this season.

The Cowboys defense has been solid this season, allowing just 14.7 points per game and holding opponents to a 20 percent conversion rate on third down.

Cowboys Vs Saints Predictions Picks And Parlays

The Cowboys are hitting on all cylinders on offense, while the Saints are trying to hold on while waiting for Brees to return. There are now three games worth of film on Moore’s offense, though, and Sean Peyton’s staff should be able to throw some new wrinkles at Prescott.

The NFL odds always seem to favor home dogs, many of whom aren’t anywhere near as talented as New Orleans. Look for the Saints to pull the upset over the visiting Cowboys.
